The Sleepyhead Deluxe | Is it worth it?

The power of the pod! The Sleepyhead... probably the main item that when pregnant I was like "should we get it, do we need it?" having a reasonably tight money savvy husband meant that the answer was always no. That was until our little bundle of joy Rory came into this world and decided "Sleep? It's for the weak"

Now that's harsh, as a nighttime sleeper I couldn't ask for anymore he is an angel... but daytime sleep? Forget it. Unless he is being cuddled up by, very specifically, mummy or his big sister... it ain't gonna happen. I was starting to panic, don't get me wrong I love the cuddles, and if my impending return to work wasn't just around the corner (4 months to go ah) then I would leave the situation as him only sleeping when cuddled (and me forever holding my bladder while pinned to the sofa) but work IS around the corner and so is childcare and I can't imagine the childminder having the same willingness to cuddle him to sleep, so for his own good sleep training had to start.

The Sleepyhead is something I was really on the fence about, I didn't think it would work, I thought I had tried everything and that my little bundle of joy just wasn't going to play ball. But then I got one and I can honestly say it's like sorcery... my non-daytime napper now naps three times a day and one of them lasts for two whole hours! I didn't want to like it, I didn't want to think that all this time if I JUST had the sleepyhead I could have had 10 minutes to myself every day but it's a complete game changer.

Rory is an arm "flailer", that newborn startle reflex hasn't gone anywhere and he will very quickly wake himself up, he is also a child that likes to be as cosy as possible. He is very much a fourth-trimester baby and likes for everything to be as womb-like as possible so the Sleepyhead keeps him all snug, cosy and cocooned whilst not giving him that free space for his arms to flail (we have tried swaddling but the kid is like Houdini, he breaks free!)

Despite there being other sleeping pods on the market, there is something about this one that is more snug and cushioned, the walls are higher and I think they help him to feel safer. He doesn't seem to notice when I put him down as much in this. There is also an undeniable difference in the quality of this item, it feels well made and built to last which is exactly what you want for anything baby related.

Like I said, I didn't want to like it, I didn't want to believe that anything could be that good, but this is just plain magic. Rory is a notorious non-sleeper and it has completely converted him. He has gone from being a baby that would sleep on me for a max of 40 minutes to a child that will sleep on his own, in his cot (in the Sleepyhead) for two-hour stretches every day! Him being in his own room means he isn't disturbed by daily noises.

Even the tight husband is concerned, as an accidental bed sharing family, we were both really concerned about Rory's transition to the cot at 6 months but it's given us the peace of mind that when the time is right, it will be fine. It's taken the pressure and the stresses off, it's given me time to myself back that doesn't involve speed cleaning the kitchen while singing Fireman Sam in a bid to entertain the non-sleeping baby. It's made me feel calmer about him being okay when I return to work and it stops the husband grumbling "Rory will be a nightmare to get in the cot"

*We were gifted the Sleepyhead in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are our own and it's absolutely amazing.

  2. I bought one before I had Reuben and it was a life saver! I felt safer having him in bed with me as I just popped him in this when he was a teeny tot. It lasted us a good 4 months but I've sold it now as he is so tall that he'd outgrown it! Xx

  3. I've heard such good things about these, sadly I didn't come across them when my two were little but I've since mentioned them to friends with newborns!
