Our Babybond Gender Scan Experience | Review

First things first, this is NOT a sponsored post. I wanted to write about our experience as I couldn't find much information when I was researching whether to have a private scan and where to have a private scan. I also wasn't 100% sure what to expect so wanted to provide some detail!

So nearly 10 weeks ago (say what! How has that time flown by) we decided to have a private 16-week scan to find out our babies gender. We decided to pay for a private scan for a number of reasons 1. Richards kids could come along which would be nice for them to see their new sibling as they can’t come to NHS ones, 2. We are impatient and 3. There is no guarantee they’ll find out your gender at the 20 weeks.

The Room:
We paid £79 and although it’s quite expensive we both agreed it was worth the money. On arrival you start with the real private hospital experience, there is a large waiting room with a huge array of drinks which obviously the kids thought was great (I actually think this was their favourite part!) however we were not kept waiting for long as we were taken through to the ultrasound room which was massive! It had a large flat screen TV, two sofas and then obviously the machinery and bed.

The Scan:
The sonographer was so lovely, really talkative and kind to the kids. She started by doing a quick wellness check on the baby and went into loads of detail about what different parts were, a bit more like your 20-week scan, but obviously if you haven’t had your 20-week scan yet this is really insightful! As our little one had decided to cross his legs she was really patient and had me jumping on the spot and drinking water to get him to shift. Whilst we were waiting for him to change positions she started the 4D part of the scan (this is a nice addition that is included) and this was crazy! You could see so much and make out little details that we didn’t even know existed at 16 weeks. Eventually little one uncrossed his legs to confirm what we already expected, he was a little boy! What I also loved is that they had checked him from multiple angles before confirming anything (even though it was quite obvious) just to make sure before the said. My 20-week also backed up what they said – he has a little chap!

Was it worth it?

Yes! The scan overall went on for half an hour, half an hour of just looking at baby! If you have had NHS scans you know they can be a little rushed so it was lovely to have time to calm down and actually enjoy seeing our baby. The 4D was also amazing and I am considering doing this when I am closer to my due date. However the main thing that I won it for me is just getting to see my baby again in the earlier days. Before you can feel baby moving there isn’t much reassurance that he is okay and cooking just fine so having a scan to break up the 8 weeks in between 12 weeks and 20 weeks made such a difference to my mental state as I was constantly convinced he wasn’t going to stick around.

  1. I had both my girls scans done at the nhs hospital. For my second girl pregnancy my bigger girl came with me for every scan, she was a part of it all. Dint know all places don't allow. Such an interesting post.
